Cigar Vault East is getting a new name and new ownership, with the East Austin cigar lounge announcing that it will now operate as Overton’s.
The name pays tribute to Richard Arvin Overton, the Austin resident and World War II veteran who became widely known as America’s oldest living WWII veteran before his death in 2018 at the age of 112. Overton was also well known within cigar circles for his daily cigar routine, often enjoying cigars from the front porch of his Austin home.
Along with the name change, new owner JT Thomas is making updates to the lounge, including changes to the humidor selection, interior, and outdoor backyard space.
“Richard Overton embodied everything we value in this industry — tradition, connection, and the joy of a good cigar,” said Thomas. “Renaming the lounge in his honor allows us to celebrate his legacy and tie it directly into the roots of Austin, TX.”
Overton’s will mark the rebrand with a grand opening celebration on September 25, 2026. The event is scheduled to include RoMa Craft Tobac, whiskey with Still Austin Master Distiller Emiliano Guajardo, beer from Blue Owl Brewing and Hi Sign Brewing, as well as live music, food, and raffles.
The lounge is located in East Austin, Texas, with the September 25 event serving as the official introduction of the Overton’s name under its new ownership.
