More than two decades after its debut, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has begun shipping an updated version of its Diamond Crown MAXIMUS line, featuring new packaging and a revised blend while keeping pricing unchanged.
The refreshed release remains available in 20-count boxes across the existing lineup. According to the company, the blend has been adjusted to offer a fuller profile while maintaining the character that longtime MAXIMUS smokers expect.
“Diamond Crown MAXIMUS is the final cigar that my grandfather Stanford J. Newman created,” said fourth-generation owner Drew Newman. “MAXIMUS is a collaboration between the three remaining cigar families in the ‘Cigar City’ of Tampa, Florida: Arturo Fuente, J.C. Newman and John Oliva. They came together in 2002 to create MAXIMUS to celebrate J.C. Newman’s 105th anniversary.”
The cigar continues to use the Ecuadorian El Bajo Sungrown wrapper developed through a collaboration between Carlos Fuente Jr., Stanford J. Newman, and tobacco grower John Oliva Sr. The wrapper is paired with filler tobaccos sourced from throughout the Caribbean Basin.
While the blend has been updated, one of the most noticeable changes is the presentation. Diamond Crown MAXIMUS now comes in a redesigned handmade box featuring column-inspired details, replacing the familiar blue box design that has been associated with the brand since its introduction in 2002.
