J.C. Newman Cigar Co. used the PCA trade show in New Orleans to pull the curtain back on a new collaboration with the Milwaukee Humidor Co. The project, titled the America250 Cigar Humidor, serves as a tribute to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
Crafted by Jason LeGear, each of the 50 limited-edition humidors features a wood-inlay map of the U.S. on the lid. In a nod to the diversity of the country, LeGear used wood sourced from trees native to each specific state to construct the map. The exterior also includes a red, white, and blue border alongside the official U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission branding.
โJ.C. Newman is proud to roll official cigars of the 250th Anniversary of the United States,โ said fourth-generation cigar maker Drew Newman. โWe are equally proud to release this limited-edition series of America250 cigar humidors. Cigars have been an important part of our country since its founding. Therefore, it is only fitting that we celebrate Americaโs 250th birthday with a humidor and cigars handmade in America.โ
Inside, the humidor comes stocked with 50 The American Perfecto cigars. This 6.25โ x 50 vitola is a new addition to The American line, which is notable for being composed entirely of domestic tobacco. Every component of the humidor itself, including the hardware and hinges, is manufactured in the States.
The creator, Jason LeGear, noted that the project is an homage to American cigar culture and the figures who defined it.
โI am honored to be woven into the tapestry of American Handcraft in our fine country with the America250 Cigar Humidor,” LeGear stated. “It is my homage to American cigar culture, from the giants of culture like Mark Twain, Orson Welles, Groucho Marx, Ernest Hemingway and Studs Terkel, to the people who for generations have cultivated, harvested, and created the cigars you now enjoy.โ
This release marks the fourth year J.C. Newman has worked with Milwaukee Humidor Co. on a specialty item. Past projects included humidors made from NBA court wood and game-used hockey pucks.
The America250 humidors are expected to ship to retailers before Memorial Day. They have a total capacity of 100 to 125 cigars and use Boveda systems for humidification. The suggested retail price is set at $2,750.
