Five years after the debut of the Pledge Prequel, Casa Carrillo is expanding the line with a new limited release called Pledge Purple.

The cigar arrives as part of the company’s Premier Collection and serves as a commemorative project tied to the five-year milestone of the original Prequel, which earned Cigar of the Year honors in 2020 with a 98 rating from Cigar Aficionado.

According to the company, shortly after that recognition was announced in 2021, Casa Carrillo set aside a portion of Havana-seed Connecticut wrapper from the same crop used on the original Pledge Prequel. That tobacco, grown in the Connecticut River Valley and sourced from Dunn & Foster, has since been aged for nearly a decade.

While the wrapper shares its origin with the earlier release, Pledge Purple is described as an entirely new blend. The company says the internal components were reformulated to highlight the evolved character of the extended-aged wrapper rather than recreate the original profile.

Pledge Purple will be produced in a 6 x 54 Toro format. The blend features the long-aged Havana-seed Connecticut wrapper, a Mexican binder, and Nicaraguan fillers from Estelí, Condega, and Ometepe. Casa Carrillo describes the cigar as full strength.

Production is limited to 3,500 boxes, with distribution planned in multiple installments throughout the year. Each box contains 10 cigars with a suggested retail price of $18 per cigar. Shipping to select retailers is expected to begin in early March.

Pledge Purple joins the broader Pledge portfolio as a standalone release rather than a direct sequel, representing a separate interpretation built around the same historic wrapper crop.
