Black Star Line Cigars has announced the release of their new core line cigar, Meadowood MLK, set to be available for purchase at PCA 2025 in New Orleans. The blend was crafted by owner Aric Bey at Tabacalera La Isla. โThis is a very significant and not well known piece of history. Martin Luther King Jr worked on a tobacco farm before he went to college. He helped to grow Connecticut broadleaf. King also got the inspiration to become pastor at the farms because he used to do small sermons for the other employees. King also stated that he noticed how much different he was treated because the racism in the north was not as bad as it was in the south,โ said Bey.
The packaging, designed by Cigar Dojo, features tobacco fields and a barn on both the band and the box. The box is colored in โold goldโ and black, representing the official colors of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity incorporated, where King was a member of the Sigma Chapter. โThe band and the box have an image of tobacco fields and the tobacco barn,โ Bey noted. He added, โI really wanted to use this name because it definitely represents how it doesnโt matter what color you are, gender, or how much money you have, cigars brings everyone together. That is also a concept King believed in.โ
The Meadowood MLK blend includes Dominican Corojo 99 wrapper, a Dominican binder, and fillers from Peru, Brazil, the United States, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. It is a 5×50 vitola with a medium body. The release will consist of 250 boxes of 20 cigars, priced at $11.99 each.
