As celebrations for the United States’ 250th anniversary continue, Mayflower Cigars has introduced a commemorative release called the Mayflower Dawn of America.
The limited edition cigar is a special reserve version of the company’s flagship Mayflower Dawn blend. While the regular release uses an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper, the Dawn of America replaces it with a Connecticut shade wrapper grown in the United States and aged for seven years.
According to the company, the wrapper was selected to tie the project to the country’s semiquincentennial, with the blend intended as a cigar for milestone occasions rather than everyday smoking.
“This is the cigar you smoke to celebrate and commemorate the most important occasions,” said Michael Knowles in announcing the release. “The cigars you not only smoke today but also save for the future.”
Each cigar comes packaged in an individual tube and is sold in commemorative boxes of 10. The company describes the blend as mild to medium-bodied, with notes of cream, almond, toasted bread, and coffee.
The secondary band bears the phrase, “To ourselves and our posterity,” a reference to the preamble of the U.S. Constitution. The company says the project was inspired by the idea of preserving milestones for future generations, while also highlighting tobacco’s historical ties to early America and the Connecticut River Valley, where Connecticut shade tobacco has long been cultivated.
The Mayflower Dawn of America is available now through the company’s website and a limited number of retailers. The company has not announced production totals or pricing.
