Altadis U.S.A. is continuing its partnership with Churchill Downs with the release of the Romeo y Julieta 152nd Kentucky Derby cigar, marking another installment tied to the annual event.
The project builds on previous Derby-themed releases, with this yearโs version centered around a medium-bodied blend using Nicaraguan tobaccos. According to the company, the profile is intended to deliver notes of vanilla and white chocolate with a clean finish.
โThis release was designed to reflect that same sense of occasion, through refined presentation, thoughtful details and a blend crafted to recognize one of the most memorable events of the year,โ said Mariana Hinestrosa, Senior Brand Manager for Romeo y Julieta.
The cigar is packaged in a white box with gold accents and red rose imagery, referencing the traditional blanket of roses associated with the Kentucky Derby. Production is limited to 1,000 boxes of 10 cigars, with an additional single-cigar coffin format set to be sold at Churchill Downs during Derby Week.
The 6 x 52 toro is produced in Honduras using all-Nicaraguan wrapper, binder, and filler tobaccos. Pricing is set at $25 per cigar or $250 per box, while the commemorative single coffin will retail for $30.
Shipping is expected to begin in April, ahead of the Kentucky Derby, which takes place on the first Saturday in May.
As part of the ongoing agreement, Altadis U.S.A. will also serve as the exclusive premium cigar provider at Churchill Downs during Derby Week, featuring a range of its brands on-site.
โThis is a strategic effort to strengthen our presence at one of the most prestigious events in the country,โ said Oliver Hyams, Vice President of Marketing at Altadis U.S.A. โIt allows us to connect our brands with a highly engaged audience.โ
