German Engineered Cigars has announced AKUT, a new packaging concept that places premium longfiller cigars in pharmaceutical-style blister packs. The launch includes two blends, RVGN Extrem AKUT and Kraftwerk AKUT, with the company planning to show the format at PCA 2026 in New Orleans from April 17 through 20.
According to the company, the packaging was produced in Germany using specialized suppliers and is meant to offer a sealed, portable format for individual cigars. The presentation also leans into the pharmaceutical theme with aluminum cavities and a package insert that includes fictional side effects such as: “Unexpected emotional alignment. Moments of unplanned calm or creative thought. The need to explain to others that no, you are not in a hurry.”
“We look at other industries for optimal solutions and learn from them,” said Oliver Nickels, Co-Founder and Chief Cigar Engineer. “A pharmaceutical blister is the optimal packaging for protecting an individual cigar: sealed, portable, no humidor required. The package insert is the most effective format for delivering product information. As German Engineered Cigars, we recognize what works well and transfer it to the cigar industry to create a new, exciting experience.”
The first two cigars to use the AKUT format are RVGN Extrem and Kraftwerk. RVGN Extrem was created to mark the brandโs 10th anniversary and is described as a medium-bodied Dominican blend. Kraftwerk, meanwhile, is positioned as a fuller-bodied Dominican offering. German Engineered Cigars says both products will be shown at booth 2646 during PCA, with U.S. and global distribution to follow shortly after.
