J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has begun shipping a revived version of Sarzedas, a cigar brand that traces its origins back to 1900. Once known as “The Aromatic Cigar,” the name reenters the market more than a century later with production now taking place at the company’s PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
Fourth-generation owner Drew Newman explained the long-running interest in bringing the historic label back. “I have loved the Sarzedas name and the brand’s history as ‘The Aromatic Cigar’ for years,” he said, noting that the company waited until a blend felt appropriate for the brand’s past. “Sarzedas is the most flavorful cigar we have ever made.”
The new Sarzedas line is offered in four sizes:
- 6” x 50 Toro
- 4.75” x 52 Robusto
- 7” x 48 Churchill
- 5.5” x 43 Corona
Blending was led by Rich Dolak, J.C. Newman’s longtime Vice President of Operations, who has worked with the Newman family for nearly three decades. The cigar features an Ecuadorian Shade wrapper with binder and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Pricing ranges from $7.75 to $10 per cigar.
“Sarzedas is a fun, aromatic cigar that everyone can enjoy,” Newman added.
