Joya de Nicaragua is reaching back to one of its most beloved cigars with the introduction of Cuatro Cinco “Secret Cask”, a project that brings back the character and blend profile of the original 2013 Cuatro Cinco Edición Limitada. The new expression continues the brand’s tradition of barrel-aged tobacco and nods to a milestone moment in its history.
The original Cuatro Cinco launched in 2013 to commemorate the company’s 45th anniversary, featuring Nicaraguan tobacco aged in whiskey-rum barrels. It later evolved into the Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial line—yet many fans of the brand still point to the first release as the standout. “Enthusiasts never forgot the original Cuatro Cinco ‘Edición Limitada’,” the company noted in its announcement.
That inspiration led to the Secret Cask project, which Joya says draws on tobacco reserved more than a decade ago. “In 2013, we set aside a few barrels of aging tobacco for a future purpose, in a room that feels almost sacred within our factory,” said Executive President Juan Ignacio Martínez. He described the space as a “sanctuary where temperature and humidity are carefully regulated, and where time itself becomes an ingredient.”
Like the original, the cigar uses all-Nicaraguan tobaccos, including leaves aged in charred oak barrels. Rolled in a 6″ x 54 box-pressed format, the cigar is intended to offer medium-to-full intensity with wood, sweetness, and a smooth finish. Each box includes a small casket containing aged filler tobacco to echo the Secret Cask aging process.
Production is limited to 1,500 boxes, split between the U.S. (700) and international markets (800). The cigars are boxed in 10-count presentations and priced at $18.95 per cigar / $189.50 per box. Shipping to retailers is scheduled to begin in early November 2025.
