In an exclusive appearance on Cigar Dojo’s Smoke Night LIVE Episode 457, Nicholas Perdomo III unveiled details about the forthcoming Perdomo Legacy cigar, set to debut this May.
The new line, which has been in development for nearly five years, will feature three wrapper varieties: Connecticut, maduro, and a previously undisclosed Nicaraguan Shade wrapper. This new wrapper type, grown at Perdomo’s Finca Natalie farm in Estelí, Nicaragua, represents a unique hybrid of Cuban seed and Cameroon seed developed by the company in 2014-2015. The leaf will be used as the wrapper component of the latter blend, as well as the binder of all three cigars, with all three making use of the family’s Nicaraguan fillers.
“This is really my baby,” Perdomo III shared during the interview. “I wanted to make something totally different.” He described the Nicaraguan Shade wrapper as offering “tremendous sweetness” with notes of cinnamon spice and a molasses finish.
While the release coincides with Nick Perdomo Jr.’s 60th birthday this year, the younger Perdomo emphasized that the timing was coincidental. “Nobody in my opinion, especially in the last three decades, is more deserving in our industry,” he said of his father. “Forget the fact he is my dad, but what he’s done, the changes, the way we do business in the industry, the way we merchandise, package our cigars, everything.”
The Perdomo Legacy will make its official debut at Two Guys Smoke Shop in New Hampshire from May 8-10, followed by a limited release to select retailers in mid-May. All tobaccos used in the blend feature 10-year aging certification, and Perdomo III emphasized that the line will be “priced to sell every day,” following the company’s commitment to value pricing. Full packaging details and pricing will be revealed at the upcoming PCA trade show in New Orleans.
