When you’re as old as La Aurora, the milestone achievements seem to come at a near-exponential rate. But that doesn’t make them any less meaningful, as evidenced by the company’s 120th celebrations throughout 2023. This began with the Dominican puro La Aurora 120 Anniversary in the spring, later expanding to include a limited offshoot in the fall.

Thankfully for cigar hobbyists, the former cigar is here to stay. Focusing on La Aurora’s home of the DR (specifically, the Cibao region), the blend includes a wide variety of seed varietals, being topped with an oily Habano ’92 wrapper that’s finished with cedar sleeves along the bottom half of each cigar. The end result is an experience that surprised our panel of judges, being one of the more unique profiles from La Aurora in recent memory, as well as the first from the company to be placed on a Dojo year-end list. Expect a bright and lively profile with a great room aroma. The smoke is medium-plus in body and a bit fuller in flavor, operating in the realm of cedar, citrus, freshly ground coffee bean, tangy musk, and cinnamon honey—it truly has a lot going on in terms of complexity.
