For the past decade, Aganorsa Leaf’s Aniversario series had become an annual treat for the purist, with the company showing off custom-tuned blends/sizes out of their boutique-style factory in Miami. In recent years, the annual series has begun morphing into more of a traditional line, including a name change (formerly Casa Fernández Miami Aniversario), updated packaging/branding, the addition of a maduro alternative, a move from Miami to Nicaragua, and, in what is likely the final piece of the puzzle, the evolution into a proper trio lineup with the addition of the Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Connecticut in 2023.
Banded in a deep blue and silver palette and finished with a semi-transparent paper sleeve along each cigar’s bottom half, the Aniversario Connecticut was introduced in two box-pressed sizes (Gran Robusto and Toro). The blend is billed as the most premium Connecticut in Aganorsa’s portfolio, using tobaccos from Nicaragua’s Jalapa and Estelí growing regions throughout the binder and filler and being topped with a darker-than-average Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf. This makes for a fuller smoking character than the conventional Connecticut, being thick and vaporous in texture. The Aniversario Connecticut is cool in smoking temperature as well, allowing deep flavor complexities to linger on the palate, hitting standout notes of freshly cut cedar, white pepper, nutty browned butter, and nougat through the finish.
