Before there was hype surrounding NFT projects such as the LFD Andalusian Bull The Golden NFT or Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition, Selected Tobacco S.A. was actually the first cigar company to capitalize on the craze of non-fungible tokens, putting a cigar NFT up for sale in 2021.
The NFTs were sold in single and box versions, with the latter being set at $1,200. There were five box versions of the NFT, each being purchased by US-based retailers. And now, the cigars associated with the NFT—Atabey Black Ritos—are ready to ship.
Along with the five box NFTs, Selected Tobacco has picked a total of ten retailers across the country to receive Atabey Black Ritos, a 6⅛” x 55 cigar that showcases the familiar Atabey branding with a darker twist. The cigars feature a dark Ecuadorian wrapper and undisclosed fillers. Adding onto the meticulous aging process the company showed off in 2022, Atabey Black was aged for five years in rooms lined with five different cedars and French oak, described as “imparting a depth and complexity to the Atabey Black Ritos that is truly unparalleled.”

Atabey Black Ritos is packaged in ornate, black lacquered boxes of 25 cigars, which are set to retail for $50 per cigar MSRP. There will be 5,000 cigars (200 boxes) available starting this week.
