Highclere Castle Cigar Co. has partnered with Foundation Cigar Co.’s Nicholas Melillo to create their third overall release, made in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Howard Carter’s (5th Earl of Carnarvon of Highclere Castle) discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
Both Foundation and Highclere have been fond of historical/Biblical concepts over the years, and the Senetjer follows suit. The cigar’s name represents the ancient Egyptian word for “incense,” translating directly as “of the gods.” This continues with the box presentation, which is a replica of the storage boxes discovered within Tutankhamun’s tomb. And the logo displayed on the boxes and bands showcases “[a] scarab representing the Egyptian god, Khepri […]. This scarab incorporates the equivalent of a modern-day monogram representing the name Tutankhamun.
“This year, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of my Great Grandfather, the 5th Earl of Carnarvon’s extraordinary discovery of the Pharoah Tutankhamun’s tomb in November 1922. To celebrate the centenary of this amazing find, we have created the Senejter blend, which is a homage to the cigars enjoyed by my family in the roaring twenties.” George Herbert, 8th Earl of Carnarvon
Like former Highclere cigars, the Senetjer was blended by Nick Melillo. The cigars incorporate an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper from the seventh priming, a Brazilian Mata Fina binder, and undisclosed fillers described as “specially selected and aged 3yrs from unique lots.” Senetjer has been rolled in a singular 6¾” x 52 perfecto format and is packaged in 12-count boxes that will retail for $396 MSRP ($33/cigar). The cigars are set to debut at next month’s PCA trade show in Las Vegas, and will be distributed by Foundation Cigar Co. later this fall.
UPDATE: after publishing this article, Nick Melillo clarified to Cigar Dojo that the cigars are rolled at A.J. Fernández’s Tabacalera A.J. Fernández Cigars de Nicaragua factory in EstelÃ, with the cigars being offered in limited/ongoing quarterly batches.
