Since debuting the critically acclaimed Mil Días brand in the fall of 2020, Crowned Heads has showcased multiple limited-edition spinoffs of the brand in the years following. While these updated releases have largely centered on limited formats of the same core blend, the Mil Días Marranitos EL 2022 offers a more direct alteration, swapping the Habano wrapper for a dark Ecuadorian Sumatra maduro leaf.

Crowned Heads describes the cigar as “same but different,” using the original brand’s binder/filler, updating the wrapper, and rolling the cigars in a new 5¾” x 52 parejo format.

“I felt that after releasing Marevas, Escongidos, and Magicos as limited releases, that Mil Días had reached an evolution point in the brand where playing with the cover leaf became an interesting proposition,” commented Crowned Heads co-founder/owner Jon Huber. “We had experimented with several wrapper options; however, when we applied the Sumatra Maduro wrapper to the existing blend, the flavor profile took on a whole other dimension.

The cigars—officially titled Mil Días Marranitos Edición Limitada 2022—are described as medium-plus in body and full in flavor, and are being offered in a limited run of 30,000 (2,500 boxes of 12 cigars). As with former releases, they have been rolled at the Tabacalera Pichardo factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Pricing is set at $12.25 per cigar MSRP, expected to begin shipping in March.
