No. 9 Cigar of the Year 2021 – PIV Robusto

Collaborations are not the norm for Dion Giolito and his Illusione Cigars brand, but the opportunity to work with actor and cigar aficionado Jeremy Piven was not one to be missed. Piven is best known for his role as Ari Gold on the HBO series Entourage, and has since appeared on the cover of Cigar Aficionado on two occasions. So, when he began contemplating the idea of his own cigar brand, Piven was pointed in the direction of Giolito and his highly regarded palate, with the PIV Robusto later materializing under The Jeremy Piven Collection in the fall of 2021. Tobacco-wise, the PIV Robusto brought Giolito the chance to work with a new Corojo 2012 seed out of the AGANORSA fields of Nicaragua, which he used throughout the cigar’s double binder. This leaf is described as bringing rich and consistent creaminess to Illusione’s balanced, often sweet character. These attributes are easily detectable throughout the PIV, showing a creamy texture and long-lasting flavors of florals, buttered sourdough toast, and a sugary sweetness similar to Smarties candies.
