Deprived of a booth presentation during the company’s milestone 125th anniversary in 2020, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. was clearly eager to extend the celebration into this year’s trade show, displaying perhaps the most impressive booth presence I’ve witnessed in my eight years covering the event. Constructed from 2,000 pieces of recycled cardboard, the Newmans built a one-quarter-scale replica of their historic El Reloj factory in Ybor City, FL.

It’s been a remarkable past few years for the company, completely renovating their 112-year-old factory to its former glory, culminating with the grand re-opening earlier this January. The new vision includes a three-level cigar museum, theater, event space, cigar-rolling gallery, souvenir shop, daily tours, and more. This was conveyed through a miniature version at the PCA 2021 trade show, showcasing the company’s history and vintage pieces from the factory, such as cigar boxes and molds.

Aside from the Perla del Mar Corojo release of late 2020, new product was limited to a new size—Double Robusto—for The American cigar. This cigar is rolled in a 5½” x 56 format and first launched in small numbers for Independence Day shortly before the show. Production will increase for late summer, with the cigars priced at $17.50 MSRP.
