Brothers Alec and Bradley Rubin introduced their second cigar brand in 2019—Gatekeeper—capitalizing on the traction gained from 2018’s Blind Faith cigar. Unlike their first release, the duo headed into uncharted territory with Gatekeeper, transitioning from Honduras to the Dominican Republic and striking an unsuspected partnership with Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. Often credited with pioneering the boutique cigar movement, Carrillo lent his valuable expertise in the creation of Gatekeeper, which is manufactured at his Tabacalera La Alianza factory in the Dominican Republic.
As the Rubin brothers consider Carrillo “a gatekeeper to new opportunities,” the Gatekeeper concept was born. The cigar makes use of a diverse, three-country blend, being highlighted by a dark-hued Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. Not only does the cigar stand apart in the growing stable from Alec & Bradley Cigars, but is unique when compared to parent company, Alec Bradley Cigar Co. as well. This includes a fun contrast of spice and sweetness, offering a medium body and easily approachable flavors of dark spice, Sugar in the Raw, roasted chestnuts, and browned butter.
