Five years after Tatuaje struck limited-edition gold with a maduro known as Mexican Experiment, the company revisited the blend—only this time it’s here to stay. The cigar is dubbed ME II (aka Mexican Experient II), showcasing a near-identical recipe to the original with an added twist; Pete Johnson, owner of Tatuaje Cigars, has selected higher tobacco primings within the cigar’s filler, translating to a slightly stronger, spicier take on the blend. Additionally, ME II is produced on an ongoing basis, being rolled in four of the original five sizes from the 2012 series. And then there’s the kicker, for those that weren’t sold quite yet—each of the four sizes share an identical price point of $10, allowing for a purely preference-based selection. The cigars are rolled at the My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, featuring a core blend of the García family’s Nicaraguan tobaccos and a Mexican San Andrés cover. The cigar smokes with a medium-plus body and a full flavor profile, showing an exemplary rendition of the Mexican/Nicaraguan style’s dark and earthy characteristics, bringing out notes of raw peppercorn, espresso, chocolate brownie, leather, and a touch of brown sugar sweetness.
