Four years after Drew Estate first announced the Liga Privada Único Serie Year of the Rat cigar, the blend is set to be launched on a wider scale, displaying the cigars on January 29th–31st at the 2020 TPE trade show, held inn Las Vegas, NV.
The Year of the Rat is a tweaked version of the first cigar in the Liga Privada Único Serie, Liga Privada Dirty Rat. The brand was first announced in 2016 as an exclusive for the Drew Estate Lounge, then located at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida—home of the Florida Panthers NHL team. Year of the Rat was billed as a commemorative size, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Florida Panthers 1996 Stanley Cup team, which became known for fans celebrating goals by throwing rats onto the ice. But the 2020 edition instead ties into the Year of the Rat zodiac sign for the 2020 Chinese New Year, which begins today, Jan. 25th.
The cigar was later offered at Drew Estate events featuring company Founder and President, Jonathan Drew. But the size will now become more available, with all Drew Diplomat-authorized retailers able to carry up to four boxes for sale during Drew Diplomat events starting in April 2020.
The updated Liga Privada Único Serie Year of the Rat cigar features the same 5½” x 46 size and fan-tail cap from the original release, but the packaging has undergone noticeable changes. This includes a new vibrant gold foil sleeve, as well as a 2020-branded foot band. Year of the Rat will be sold in 10-count boxes for $159.97 per box.
