The OSOK (One Shot One Kill) brand has reached its third iteration, as brand owner Edgar Hoill has announced the OSOK San Andrés, which will be produced in Mexico by the Turrent family.
In 2017, Edgar Hoill was noticeably absent from the CLE booth at IPCPR 2017, as he’d left the company and begun to work with the Turrent family in Mexico. But Edgar didn’t simply move his brand to a new factory, he set out to understand the cigar making process on a deeper level, apprenticing under Don Alberto Turrent, eventually becoming a quality control appointee for Casa Turrent.
After apprenticing, Hoill spent another year creating the next generation of OSOK, using Mexican tobaccos exclusively. While Mexican leaf has risen to become one of the most popular wrapper (and often binder) ingredients in today’s market (with virtually all of the tobacco coming from the Turrent family), it is nearly unprecedented to find a Mexican puro.
OSOK San Andrés features select/vintage tobaccos throughout, including a Colorado maduro wrapper from 2015/2016, a Banda Clara binder from 2010/2011, and fillers that range from 2012 to 2016 harvests. At launch, the cigars consist of a single size (5½” x 54) to ensure high quality standards. In addition, only 6,000 cigars will be rolled per month, which will be distributed by Casa Turrent.
The OSOK brand was originally released in 2012 as a limited edition collaboration between Matt Booth, Edgar Hoill, and Christian Eiroa. The cigars were named for Hoill’s moniker in the photography scene, as he is known to capture the perfect shot on the first try. The entire batch of 30,000 original OSOK cigars were rolled by a single roller, and the cigars have since become a collector’s item (Cigar Dojo named the Room101 OSOK one of 15 Cigars to Smoke Before You Die). When Christian Eiroa left Camacho (where OSOK was originally made) in 2012, Edgar Hoill followed, eventually relaunching the brand (using a different blend) in 2013 with Christian’s CLE Cigar Company.
Update: Edgar Hoill has confirmed to Cigar Dojo that his cigars produced in partnership with CLE (OSOK, EH Cigars, OG OSOK, Everyday Hustle) will continue to be distributed by CLE Cigar Co.
