In 2016, the Caldwell booth featured La Barba Cigars as a new addition to the Caldwell family. In 2017, the booth became the talk of the show, adding Matt Booth and his Room101 brand to the mix. But 2018 saw a return to Caldwell as the primary focus.

The booth was largely the same as the past two years, featuring stacked crates and enough modern art to make your head spin. And while certain corners of the booth still showcased cigars from the aforementioned company’s, Caldwell’s cigars stood front and center, offering three new blends for 2018.

Anastasia (Blue Label)

Anastasia was a special collaboration between Caldwell and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. factory, made as a followup to Caldwell’s limited edition The Last Tsar cigar. While only 80,000 cigars were originally crafted, a larger batch will now begin rolling out with a slightly tweaked blend. Caldwell says the only difference is the cigar’s wrapper, which now uses a higher priming to bring the blend from mild/medium to a solid medium.

The updated Anastasia is distinguished by a new blue sub-band (compared to the green look of the original). The cigars are shipping now.

Eastern Standard Sungrown

This is the fourth blend in the Eastern Standard lineup, following the original from 2014 (one of Caldwell’s first cigars), Eastern Standard Midnight Express (one of the only maduro offerings from Caldwell), and Eastern Standard Dos Firmas (the most refined/complex). The ES Sungrown offers a sun-grown habano wrapper for the first time in the series and is said to be the strongest cigar in the entire Caldwell lineup.

The cigars are made at Caldwell’s usual Tabacalera William Ventura factory in the Dominican Republic, offered in four sizes that will retail between $10.50 and $12.40 per cigar. Caldwell expects the cigars to ship within one month of the trade show (mid-August) and will be a regularly available offering moving forward.

LLTK MAD MF

The long LLTK MAD MF acronym represents “Long Live the King Mad Mother F**ker.” This is the second line extension to the Long Live the King brand (one of Caldwell’s first offerings), following in the footsteps of 2016’s limited edition Savages cigar.

LLTK MAD MF features a limited 75,000 cigars spread across four sizes (roughly 1,875 boxes per size), using a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper over an Indonesian binder and a multi-country filler recipe (USA, DR, and Nicaragua). The blend is described as medium-plus in body and will begin shipping near the end of August.
