Camacho Cigars announced today their plans for the 2017 iteration of their well-known, annual Liberty Series cigar release. 2017 marks a special milestone for the brand, commemorating 15 years since the line first launched in 2002—making it one of the longest running limited edition series among premium cigars.
To celebrate this anniversary, Camacho has included the tagline “15 Years Strong” on the cigar’s packaging—which has become known over the years for its elaborate presentations, usually incorporating individual coffins for each cigar. 2017’s release will uphold this feature, but the design has been overhauled, showing black-on-black for the cigar’s boxes and a military rank insignia design (complete with “15” at its center) for the cigar’s bands.
2015’s blend was Nicaraguan puro. 2016 was diverse, with tobaccos of five countries. 2017’s blend finds balance between the two, using a four-country blend but making its primary focus on Nicaraguan, Estelí-grown Corojo 99 tobaccos at the heart of the cigar’s blend (similar to what Camacho is featuring in the recently-announced Nicaraguan Barrel-Aged cigars). This is reportedly the most of such tobacco ever used in a Camacho cigar.
But perhaps most interesting is Camacho’s decision to veer from their signature 11/18 figurado size that has been showcased on nearly every Liberty release (as well as many other limited production cigars from the brand), instead opting for a beefed up, 6″ x 54 toro that Camacho has dubbed “Super Toro.”
The cigars are slated for release on June 22, 2017 and will hit global markets this fall.
