AJ Fernandez has been wowing cigar hobbyists for years, beginning with shop-exclusive house blends for some of the biggest online retailers, and progressing to offer cigars under his own brand; where Fernandez has consistently shocked the cigar world with astonishingly low prices and high value smoking experiences.
In 2016, AJF Cigar Co. stepped their game up to the next level, releasing the critically-acclaimed Bellas Artes cigar; which uses a proprietary, 3-part-hybrid wrapper to showcase a truly unique flavor profile. AJF Cigar Co. was the most winning brand overall in Cigar Dojo’s 2016 awards, taking home Value Cigar of the Year (Last Call), Cigar Brand of the Year, and an impressive #4 Cigar of the Year 2016! (Bellas Artes Short Churchill).
Contest Theme: Fine Art
Bellas Artes (pronounced “Bay-yuss Ar-tez”) translates from Spanish to mean “Fine Arts.” And if there’s one thing we’ve learned from DOJONATION over the years, it’s that cigar fanatics are more into taking artistic photos of premium cigars than hipsters photographing their brunch!
This is the time to get artsy and creative—maybe download a few photo filter apps (Instagram, Snapseed, Hipstamatic, and Prisma are great places to start) or simply showcase your photography skills by taking advantage of good scenery, interesting camera angles, good composition, and other fun techniques! (iPhone 7 users, now’s your chance to take advantage of that Portrait mode!)
Get creative and show some personality! Sometimes the most interesting shots include yourself (hello cigar selfies!) and other times it’s the sexy qualities of the leaf that do all the work.
To enter the contest:
- Take an artistic cigar photo or artistic cigar selfie
- Post your picture on the Cigar Dojo app
- Include hashtag #cigarArt
- Share your entry on social media » see how
While there are three winners this week, each receiving a full box of some of the most exciting cigars we’ve ever given away, our Grand Prize winner will take home the biggest size. This winner will receive a full, sealed box of 20 Bellas Artes cigars in the 6.5″ x 58 Gordo size!
When reviewing the Bellas Artes in August, 2016, we summed up the experience as:
[Bellas Artes’] new hybrid leaf feels (tastes) like much more than a gimmick—highlighting the best attributes from the complex blend beneath. This all amounts to a shockingly full flavor experience from first puff. It doesn’t rely on overused decoys such as ultra sweet or ultra peppery flavors, instead offering a more balanced approach that hits the palate on all fronts.
Runner-up Winner #1
Our 2nd place winner (runner-up winner #1) this week will receive a full, 20-count box of Bellas Artes in the 5.5″ x 52 Robusto Extra size. This is the same size we initially reviewed, earning an impressive 94-point score.
Runner-up Winner #2
Our 3rd place winner (runner-up winner #2) this week will receive a full, 20-count box of Bellas Artes in the 6″ x 48 Short Churchill size. This is the size we awarded as the #4 Cigar of the Year for 2016.
