For the past few years, Room101 has occupied a small corner within the Davidoff compound at IPCPR. Their 2016 setup kept with this theme, bringing a calm, cool, and sophisticated demeanor – all the while retaining a slight edge/funkiness you’d expect from the man behind the brand – Matt Booth.
The “booth” showcased core line cigars such as The Big Payback and its Connecticut counterpart. But the main focus was directed towards a new limited run project called “Chief Cool Arrow”.
Chief Cool Arrow
It’s the second cigar in Room101’s “Artist Collection Series”, which debuted last year with the limited edition Johnny Tobacconaut.
In classic Matt Booth fashion, multiple origin stories were told. One of which saw Matt fantasizing the idea of arming Native Americans to take back their land – a metaphor for the newly introduced “Chief Cool Arrow” taking back the intergalactic soil, which “Johnny Tobacconaut” so carelessly exploited in the series’ first release.
In another version, the cigar’s title represented a phonetic pun. When “Culero”, a colorful, Spanish, slang insult (and a size in the Room101 lineup) ran into copyright issues, the brand changed the name to Cool Arrow (cu·lero) in defiance.
And in a third and even stranger iteration (with JR Cigar), Matt describes the “effervescent flavors” and “scintillating taste profile” which will “cascade over your tastebuds” – turning everyday “jaywalking” into “swag”…
For presentation, the cigars are virtually identical to last year’s Johnny Tobacconaut, having the same size boxes with black, gloss finish. The copper color scheme has been replaced with a cool blue, and the new “Chief Cool Arrow” character replaces JT, holding Johnny’s space helmet under his right arm.
