AVO has announced their plans to follow up the limited edition “Improvisation Series” introduced in 2015, releasing the AVO 90th Classic Covers Volume 3 later this month. The Classic Covers line introduced the unique concept of AVO “covering” their own baseline blends; drawing inspiration once again from the music industry, in the way musicians often cover each others songs, making tweaks along the way for a fresh take on old favorites.
AVO 90th Classic Covers Volume 3 will “cover” the brand’s AVO XO cigar, using rare, Dominican fillers (aged 10 & 11 years), a Mexican Negro San Andrés binder, and a Habano 2000 Claro wrapper from Ecuador. This will be in place of the blend’s usual Dominican filler and binder, and Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper.
Presented in an elegant 6 x 54 Toro format, the 90th Classic Covers blend utilizes 6 different tobaccos spanning across 3 different countries, all working in harmony to deliver a remarkably unique and richly complex flavor profile.
The AVO brand has introduced a special, limited edition blend in honor of brand runner Avo Uvezian’s birthday for the past 15 years, but the brand made a detour from the birthday theme in 2015 to introduce the Improvisation Series. Now, for the 3rd installment in the series, AVO will once agin honor Uvezian’s birthday, celebrating 90 years.
“For 90 years now, I have enjoyed life to the fullest, everything it has to offer. Still, my favorite times are sharing conversation and special cigars with my fans,” states Avo Uvezian. “Life is only as good as the people you share it with. I always say, it’s not about the legacy you leave. It’s about the one you share.” — Avo Uvezian
The original Classic Covers cigar was released a year prior to the Volume 3, with the Volume 2 following a few months later, during the 2015 IPCPR show. As the original blend covered the AVO Classic, and the Volume 2 covered the Avo Heritage, it is assumed there will be a forth edition later this year (as hinted by AVO) which will cover their final baseline blend, AVO Domaine.
As expected, the cigars arrive in intricate, music-inspired packaging. Each release in the Classic Covers series has strived to outclass its predecessor, and Volume 3 is no exception. The cigars’ boxes are modeled after Uvezian’s own record player, complete with a faux, detachable, vinyl record top. When the top is removed, the box will double as an ashtray.
