In a word… YUM! In three words… YUM, YUM, YUM! Today I had the pleasure of smoking the Ortega Serie D #10 Natural. This Belicoso weighs in at 6 inches long with a 52 ring gauge. I love the look of this rustic cigar, no fancy wrapper here just plain’ol gorgeous Ecuador Habano Rosado tabacco wrapped around delicious aged Nicaraguan Jalapa and Esteli tobacco fillers. The pre-light smell is a very strong dry hay smell and after cutting you will find the PERFECT draw.
Upon toasting and lighting the Ortega Serie D Natural supplies my taste buds with cedar and nuts and plenty of creamy, juicy “stick to your ribs” smoke.
This cigar changed my outlook on natural wrapped cigars.
The cigar burns marvelously and I can just about guarantee you will ride this one to the nub.
This medium to full bodied smoke will begin to develop into a buttered toast flavor with hints of honey sweetness and the flavor on your tongue from the tobacco is a really nice and savory meaty flavor. The Ortega Serie D offers a bit of a spicy kick which will please any cigar aficionado.
One amazing factor about this cigar is the price, these perform like a super premium yet will only set you back about $6-$7. Based on the performance that’s a bargain in my opinion. If this is a preview of the type of cigars Ortega will be producing in his new found solo venture we are all in for a real treat.
Would I smoke this cigar again?
You bet I would… in fact I have smoked several of these since. I normally buy Maduro wrapped cigars but this natural blew my mind and gave me a whole new outlook on natural cigars. Yes… it was that good!
