Among the newcomers at this year’s PCA trade show will be Sacrificio Cigars, a new company from award-winning hospitality icon Julio Cabrera.

Julio is a trained cantinero (a well‐respected form of bartender in Cuba), beginning his career in 1989 and going on to work internationally before training the next generation of cantineros in Cuba—which he did for 15 years. Cabrera later founded the now-famed Cafe la Trova bar in Miami in 2019, which earned him the American Bartender of the Year at the 2019 Spirited Awards during the Tales of the Cocktail convention.

Inspired by his Cuban heritage and his father’s love of premium cigars, Julio is debuting his Sacrificio Cigars company at this year’s trade show, partnering with the Oliva factory of Nicaragua to produce an initial line with four sizes: Junior (5″ x 50), Elegante (7″ x 38), Maestro (6½” x 52), and El Caballo (6″ x 60).

“After trying hundreds of cigars in my search for the perfect flavors, I knew exactly what I wanted to do,” said Cabrera. “Connecting Cuba’s long agricultural tradition with Nicaragua’s fertile lands, Sacrificio Cigars is the perfect synergy of two great cultures, and that shines through in each cigar.”

While all four sizes are described as falling under the same line, there are differences in profile and recipe, ranging from Ecuadorian Connecticut to Ecuadorian Habano claro, Ecuadorian Sumatra, and Ecuadorian Habano wrapper styles.

Pricing was not listed in a press release from the company. Sacrificio Cigars will be making its debut at PCA 2023 (July 7-11) in Las Vegas, followed by widespread availability in the US and UK.
