New product continues to ship to retailers following the 2022 PCA trade show this July, where most manufacturers introduce new product for the first time. This now includes Foundation Cigar Company’s new Olmec line, which was announced on July 1st and is now shipping.

Olmec is rolled in claro and maduro varieties of Mexican San Andrés wrapper—with the cigars being themed around the Olmec people of Mexico, who pre-date both the Mayans and Aztecs.

They are the first to create mathematically precise pyramids, calendars, and, as far as we know, the first to smoke cigars. The Heart Land of the Olmecs is the tropical lowlands of modern-day Mexican states of Veracruz, Tabasco, and San Andrés Tuxtla. Today, this is the same region that grows some of the finest San Andrès Negro wrapper tobacco. This seed variety is considered one of the oldest seed varieties in the world.

The Olmec line includes the Olmec Claro and Olmec Maduro, with both showcasing different shades of a San Andrés Negro wrapper that is “fermented slowly at low temperatures to preserve the natural oils that give flavor.” The cigars also include all-Nicaraguan binder/fillers from Estelí and Jalapa, which are bale-aged for three years before arriving on the production floor.

The cigars are crafted out of the A.J. Fernández factory in Estelí, with five sizes that are priced between $12.50 and $16 per cigar.
