Washington DC-based distillery Jos. A. Magnus & Co has introduced a Straight Bourbon blended specifically to be paired with cigars. The new “Cigar Blend Bourbon” consists of the distillery’s award-winning Joseph Magnus Bourbon, blended with 11 and 18 year-aged whiskeys, and finished in Armagnac brandy barrels.
While the concept of cigar and whiskey pairings is nothing new—Dalmore introduced Cigar Malt single malt scotch in 1999—Jos. A. Magnus claims there has not been a specifically-branded bourbon made to pair with cigars since pre-Prohibition era.
Cigar Blend Bourbon was envisioned by the distillery’s Master Blender Nancy “the nose” Fraley, dreaming up the idea while smoking her pipe on her back porch.
Cigar Blend assumes bold, rich aromas of tobacco, spice, leather, vanilla, blanched almonds, and toffee. The Armagnac cask finish lends fruity notes of fig, prune, and dried apricot. Cigar Blend Bourbon is categorized as Straight Bourbon Whiskey and clocks in at a distinctive 101.2 proof. It is slated for release in November, 2016 at an MSRP of $149 per bottle.
