Even without the jaw-dropping presentation Padrón debuted at the 2014 IPCPR with their 50th Anniversary “The Hammer” limited edition humidors, they were still one of the largest attractions at the show. The setup was virtually the same – it’s a classy booth, featuring images of the family’s legacy and classic releases such as the Padrón Millenium, locked behind glass displays. The overall feel is like being in an upscale brick & mortar, only the humidor contains 100% Padrón (which, coincidentally, is only about 20% more than your average humidor…).

1926 Serie

The most exciting changes at Padrón’s booth revolved around the 1926 Serie. Where in years past the new sizing updates featured the Family Reserve, 1926 had the spotlight for 2016.

1926 Serie No. 47

No. 47 is nothing new to fans of the TAA Series, where brands introduce new blends and sizes for the Tobacconists’ Association of America each year. This exclusive size is now a part of the regular lineup.

  • Blend: 1926 Serie (available in natural & maduro)
  • Production: Regular Production
  • Packaging: 24-ct boxes
  • Vitola: 5½ × 50 “No. 47” robusto
  • Price: $15.70
  • Release: Now Available

1926 Serie No. 90

When we say Padrón’s focus was on the 1926, this is the cigar. 1926 Serie No. 90 features a non-box-pressed shape and comes in a new tubo presentation – a first for the brand. The cigars are named for company patriarch José Orlando Padrón, celebrating his 90th birthday. This is not the blend released earlier this year at Smoke Inn, also celebrating José’s 90th. The cigars feature a special sub-band with “No. 90” on the front. Two tubos have been designed for the natural and maduro – cream white used for natural and brick red for maduro (the same colors found on the 1926 band).

1964 Anniversary Series

The 1964 Anniversary Series had some sizing/packaging updates as well, though not having the same crowd-drawing impact as the 1926.

1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso

The Hermoso size was not technically new at the show, but was released a few months back. The cigars were still on prominent display, however. Before its release in April, Padrón began shipping various test blend alterations to retailers (some of which can be found online at the moment) before deciding on the final version, dubbed Hermoso.

Dámaso

Cigar fans were shocked at the 2015 IPCPR to find a completely new blend from the old-school brand smokers worldwide associate with their famed “natural” and “maduro” blends, seen throughout their entire lineup. The Padrón Dámaso brought big changes to this historic brand, showcasing a Connecticut shade wrapper and non-box-pressed vitolas. This was intended to offer something for smokers of a wider range of flavor profiles. Padrón again expanded this range of flavor profiles at this year’s show, introducing 2 new Dámaso cigars. There has been a growing trend in the cigar world over the past few years, with brands showcasing “amped up” Connecticut blends – a Connecticut for the modern smoker, if you will. Padrón acknowledges this shift with 2016’s Dámaso. The cigars feature a similar blend to the original, having a fuller body. These 2 new sizes use a similar design as well, swapping the color scheme to distinguish the different blends: white sub-band with red & gold for the original – red sub-band with white & gold for the new blend.
