A couple days ago I was asked on the Dojo app to review the new Uncharted JR Cigar private label, apparently there are a lot of folks that dig this new cigar that was created at the AJ Fernandez factory in Nicaragua. Now, while we typically do not do a full review and rating on a shop exclusive, I will give you this “Quick Take” so you can decide if this cigar is right for you.

First things first, the price is right. The robusto, which is the one I will be discussing, is only $4 per stick and in today’s premium cigar market, that’s about half of the average price. One of the reasons that I decided to take the time to give my thoughts on this cigar is its interesting blend: Ligero Habano Ecuador wrapper, San Andreas binder and Nicaraguan and Jamastran fillers. That’s an intriguing combination.

Right off the get go this cigar puts off a ton of spicy flavors, many of which I’m having a difficult time describing. It’s a bit like stumbling into an Herbs and Spice store. Your senses are so overwhelmed with different aromas that it’s hard to tell what you are really experiencing. There is certainly some leathery flavors, along with a hint of cedar that accompany the spices. As you work your way into the cigar, the main flavor starts to take control, which is anise (the main ingredient in black licorice). Lots and lots of anise. Each draw starts with a white pepper note and finishes with anise/licorice.

This cigar is at its best when you take a very light draw as opposed to that massive deep pull that you might take with other cigars. AJ Fernandez fans should be very happy with the Uncharted, not only for the price but for the very unique and interesting flavors. This medium to full flavored stick features great construction, as you will find with most of the stuff AJ makes.
